Has your foundation repair salesperson left you with more questions than answers?
You Are Not Alone
If you are like most folks, you are probably getting more and more confused with each
foundation repair estimate you receive. What you really need are some Straight Answers
to all of your questions.
It is my job to help you sort through the Lies, Half-Truths and downright BS that some
of the foundation repair salespeople will have you believe.
Some of the most important questions you need answered are:
Will your slab's original elevations be restored? The answer is NO, it is not
possible. The best that you can hope for is to stop the movement.
How much damage do you really have and what are the steps you need to take to correct
the problem at the minimum cost? Costly repairs are not the only or the safest option.
What can be done to prevent further damage and arrest the movement? Are costly
repairs your only option? Your must know the answer to this question or you will
will end up facing the problem again.
How do you make sure that your repair is done correctly and at a fair price? You need
expert advise.
How do you cut to the chase and figure out exactly what all of the exclusions in
the repair company's "Lifetime Warranty" means? Is it even worth the paper it
is written on? Again you need the advise of an expert.
What Are The Advantages and Disadvantages of...

The Most Important Question Of All
Why has your foundation repair salesperson not completely answered these and all of
your other questions?
There are a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that a foundation
salesperson is really no different than a car salesperson, he/she will not make any
money if if you do not buy something.
Completely answering all of your questions might lead you to the conclusion that you
do not need all of the repairs, or maybe that you do not need them at all. Many of the
salespeople act like withholding information is not the same thing as lying.
It is estimated that in the Houston and surrounding areas there are over
150 foundation repair companies competing for your business. Many will tell you just
about anything sell you a costly repair job. The situation is the same in most
other Texas cities.
I am not saying that all foundation salespeople are the same, some are very honest
and knowledgeable. The problem is that if you do not have experience in this area it
is extremely difficult, if not impossible to know who you can trust. This is exactly
why you need an expert to advise you, someone who will make sure that you do not get
ripped off.
Most foundation salespeople work on a commission, even the honest ones and the more
repairs they sell the higher their commissions will be.
Another reason could be that the salesperson giving you your estimate simply does
not have enough knowledge because of improper training and limited experience.
There is a very high turn over rate in foundation salespeople and many are never properly
trained. Some companies even depend on a high turnover rate as one of their lead sources.
The way it works is that the new sales person is encouraged to contact anyone he/she
knows, family, friends etc. When they run out of leads the commissions end and they
move on leaving the next person in line to take their place and the process continues.
Many companies proudly advertise the length of time they have been in the business.
It is much more important to know the length of time that the salesperson who is doing
your estimate has been in the business and how long the crew that will work on your
home has been in the business.
You could end up with a 40 year old company who sends out a new inexperienced salesperson
to do your estimate and then send a crew that has only been doing foundation repair for a
month or two. Not an ideal situation...
